About

Co-founded by filmmaker Seth Worley, producer Anne Fogerty, and designer Micah Lanier, Plot Devices designed analog tools for writers and directors to move their stories forward.

It all started in May 2017 with the Storyclock Notebook, a notebook designed for screenwriters brought to life by over 5,000 Kickstarter backers pledging over $100k in 30 days.

It was followed by the Storyboard Notebook, the Storyclock and Storyboard Workbooks, the Shotlist Notepad, and Storyboard Stickies. Along the way you could find our products on the shelves of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and we collaborated with Super Yaki on a Writer’s Block apparel line.

In 2025, we found ourselves at the end of a natural run: we were low on inventory and hadn’t developed a new product in two years. We asked ourselves: do we keep it going? And we came to the same conclusion. No. And no, there are not plans to come out of retirement.

But since we did a lot of nerdy story research along the way, we thought we’d keep that alive here. You can also find more educational resources like Seth’s Screenwriting Tutorials and Short Films 101 series on our YouTube channel.
